Feeling strong, I offered to help a friend carry her heavy load.
She reluctantly agreed, then tenderly shared.
And as in many of life's troubles, there were no obvious answers.
All I could do was listen and love and pray, which I did.
And while I helped with her load, I stumbled over one of my own.
It was familiar, yet still took me by surprise.
My fresh load took my eyes off my friend's.
I was forced to put her load down so I could deal with my own.
Reluctantly, I told her of my trouble.
She offered to listen and love and pray, which she did.
Under the heavy load, I cried out for rescue
And my friend's prayers became part of God's rescue operation.
The voice of the Lord started to whisper.
Instead of trusting in my own strength or wits,
Circumstances forced me to trust God totally -
Not a bad idea since he's the God who raises the dead!
I heard him say: "My grace is enough; it's all you need.
For my strength comes into its own in your weakness."
And with God's help,
I was able to listen and love and pray for my friend once again.
It was then that I realized we were part of the Sisterhood.
